Importing Store and Product Reviews from Another Review Platform

Learn how to import existing store and product reviews from another review platform into Shopper Approved, including import requirements, file formatting guidelines, and troubleshooting.

When to Import Reviews

Reviews are usually imported when using our service for the first time, or when switching back to Shopper Approved from a different review platform. Reviews are imported so you don't lose out on what you've already collected and to help provide a jump-start on your review collection.

Review imports are typically a one-time process intended to help transition your existing reviews into Shopper Approved. Once your reviews have been imported, you should collect all new reviews through Shopper Approved moving forward. We cannot continue to process ongoing or recurring imports of reviews collected through another review platform.

Where do Imported Reviews Show up?

Imported store reviews will appear inside the Shopper Approved dashboard and on the widgets that are added to your website. Imported store reviews do not get syndicated to Google or appear on the certificate page.

Imported product reviews will appear inside the Shopper Approved dashboard and on applicable widgets. Imported product reviews may also be eligible for syndication to Google if they meet Google's requirements.

Requirements for Importing Reviews

Reviews must be collected from another review management platform such as Yotpo, Power Ratings, Reseller Ratings, or another eligible review platform.

1) Content License Agreement & Review Ownership

A Content License Agreement (CLA) must be reviewed and signed, verifying that you have ownership of the reviews and that Shopper Approved has permission to import them. The CLA also releases Shopper Approved from liability if any conflicts happen due to us using your previous reviews.

Not all review platforms or marketplaces allow reviews to be transferred or reused outside of their platform. We are unable to import reviews collected through Amazon, Alibaba, or Trustpilot.

To confirm that you have ownership of the review content you want to import, we recommend reviewing the terms and conditions of the review platform the reviews are being imported from. In some cases, we may ask you to provide confirmation that the platform's terms and conditions allow you to use and transfer the review content to Shopper Approved before we can proceed with the import.

We cannot import reviews without a signed CLA. If you need a copy of our CLA, please reach out to your dedicated onboarding specialist. If you have not been assigned an onboarding specialist, please contact our dedicated support team at [email protected].

2) Import File

You will need to provide an import file containing your past reviews in the proper format. We are not allowed to alter the file before importing it. If any changes to the file are needed, we will reach back out to you and let you know what needs to be changed. After you have made the necessary changes, you can resend the file, and we can upload it for you.

The required information differs depending on whether you are importing store reviews or product reviews. You can import both store and product reviews, but they must be provided in separate import files.

Please see the sections below for the requirements for each import file, along with a link to download our import file template.

Store Review Import File

Required:

  • Review Date (in the format of MM/DD/YYYY)

  • Customer Name

  • Order Number

  • Rating (on a scale of 1-5)

  • Review Comment

Recommended:

  • Customer Email

  • Company Response (replies you've made to the customer's review)

As long as the import file you provide includes all of the required information listed above, we can proceed with the import. You do not have to use our template, but you can use it to help format your reviews if needed.

Note: Without a customer name, the review will show as “Anonymous Customer,” which may cause Google to ignore the review.

Product Review Import File

Required:

  • Review Date (in the format of MM/DD/YYYY)

  • Product Rating (on a scale of 1-5)

  • Review Comment

  • Customer Name

  • Product ID (must match the product ID on your product feed)

  • Product Name

Recommended:

  • Product URL

  • Product Image URL

  • Order Number

  • Customer Email

  • Review Title

  • Uploaded Media (customer images attached to the review)

  • Company Response (replies you've made to the customer's review)

As long as the import file you provide includes all of the required information listed above, we can proceed with the import. You do not have to use our template, but you can use it to help format your reviews if needed.

Note: Without a comment, the review will only count in our system and not towards Google. Without a customer name, the review will show as “Anonymous Customer,” which may cause Google to ignore the review. Product URL and Product Image URL are recommended to ensure proper syndication to Google.

Troubleshooting

What to do if you notice issues with the reviews after they have been imported

If you notice any issues, please reach out to your dedicated onboarding specialist. If you have not been assigned an onboarding specialist, please reach out to our dedicated support team at [email protected] with detailed information about the issue you're having.

We will look into the issue and either resolve the issue on our side if it is something caused by our system, or let you know what changes will need to be made to the file so that we can remove and re-import the reviews.
