How your product feed should be set up

Your product feed should be set up on a child product level, with a column for the parent id. This allows for the reviews to be collected on the child level following Google’s requirements, and our system can aggregate the reviews based on the parent id so that they all display on the product page. For example: if you sell multiple sizes or colors of a product we will collect the reviews based on the product id for the specific color and size purchased, but if you provide a parent id that is the same for all variants of this product we will use this parent id to combine all reviews on your product pages and widgets. This way your customers will see all reviews for every size and color variant, but we are still able to provide reviews to Google at the child level as Google requires.

Product page widget

In order to avoid negatively impacting your page load speeds or your search ranking, our code only runs once per page. Because of this, our system is only able to pull the first product id that it finds on the page. All of the reviews are displayed based on the parent id, so the only time you will notice this issue is if you turn on the “write a review” link. Using this link, customers will only have the option to review a single child product or product variant, and we are not able to change which product that is at this time. So all reviews collected using this button will be sent to Google for the same product variant. The majority of product reviews are not collected using this button, so you likely will not see much of an impact from this.
